SHOWSDT Southam Hall stage rehearsal risers
To Make a New Symphony

A significant refurbishment project at the National Arts Centre, which is located in Ottawa and was finished in 2017, was undertaken. Southam Hall, the Theatre, the Studio, and the Fourth Stage are the four venues for live performances that can be found inside the complex. These venues play host to a diverse range of events, including those by the National Arts Centre Orchestra, dance companies, English theatre, French theatre, Indigenous theatre, popular music and variety shows, and more.

Diamond Schmitt was in charge of architectural design, while Fisher Dachs Associates was a member of their team, serving in the capacity of theater consultants. The National Arts Center production department collaborated closely with the industry experts and the manufacturers of theatrical equipment to produce an end product for the Architectural Rejuvenation project that would fulfill the requirements of the National Arts organization for many years to come.

SHOWSDT has been selected as the provider of the fabrics that will be used to replace all of the stage curtains in Southam Hall and the Theatre. More than 1.6 kilometers of fabric in the shape of black velour masking, black and white scrims, and cycloramas were provided for the completion of this project. Our crew was also responsible for supplying and installing the necessary curtain tracks for the entirety of the masking.
